We have the same dynamics in my family. My brother and I joke that our medical histories are great and no one ever gets sick or dies in our family. They just move to the farm like the family dog. It is a parents job to protect their children and there is a lot of information you are maybe not meant to be told. Do YOU tell your children everything about your upbringing? Will you when they're older? It's doubtful. Children need to be protected. You were the child in the situation. They protected you. You are not at fault! I think it all depends on what kind of relationship with our parents we have. I'm like you, I would never question some of my moms past doings, because quite frankly, I don't want to know, lol. What an incredible story about your dad and his mother. It's no wonder that the experience had a powerful effect on his life. I once heard someone say "Every person you meet has a story that will break your heart." Guess that means our parents and grandparents too.
