Politics Schmolitics

I have never voted in a presidential election before.

(Pause to endure onslaught of rotten tomatoes)

Mostly, this is due to a personal conviction I have about being fully informed before casting a vote, and I have never felt fully informed on any election in the past.  Well, that and knowing that my vote doesn’t really count - every state I’ve lived in has been staunchly Republican or staunchly Democrat, so either I’m throwing in another vote with the masses or I’m throwing my vote away by voting for a candidate who doesn’t stand a chance in my state.

Nonetheless, I have decided to vote in the 2008 presidentials.  For some reason, it’s more important to me this year.  I guess I’m finally reaching that point of adulthood where the issues really matter.

But seriously?  I’m having a buggar of a time choosing a candidate,
even with the - what, 20? - that are currently marketing themselves across the country.  I thought that creating a spreadsheet to help me keep all the issues and candidate stances straight would help.  But frankly, the more I learn, the more I start to dislike them all.

So I hope you’ll forgive me if this blog starts to lean a little on the
political side until I get some of this figured out.  I need a place to lay out my thoughts, and hopefully get some opinions from others who are muddling through this circus as well.
