Something I’m Enjoying Right Now

Something I’m Realizing Right Now
The cat’s claws need trimming.  As I think about it, they have needed trimming for some time now.  I have vague recollections of the dog yelping and dragging the cat around by his paw, due to a claw lodged firmly in his lip.  And we did come home a couple of times over the past several days to find the cat hanging from his scratching post, stuck in limbo half-way up the cat-tree.  But now…now the true realization that the cat must have his claws trimmed today has really hit me.  Because now…NOW these very long, sharp needle-like claws are digging themselves into my leg.  With the utmost of affection, of course.  But if I were to get up and walk away right now, the cat would come with me whether he meant to or not.

Something That’s Worrying Me Right Now
Button is growing out of her car seat.  This concerns me greatly because the next size of car seat does not physically fit inside our 2-door coupe.  Actually, the current car seat only sort of fits - the passenger seat must be moved forward as far as it can go…fortunately I’m relatively short but I’m the only person who can fit in the passenger seat when the car seat is installed.

So…in the near future if we plan to take our daughter anywhere, we will have to purchase a new car…which means a car payment.  We don’t currently have a car payment and are having a hard time figuring out exactly how the logistics of that are going to work.

Some Advice I Can Give Right Now
You know how sometimes you’re walking around the house and get a little piece of dirt or something stuck to the bottom of your foot…and then you just wipe it off on the back of your leg or the top of your other foot?

Make sure you check first to be sure it’s not a random shard of GLASS.  Because ouch.

Island Tag

Wednesday, June 7th, 2006

Jennifer at Mama’s Moon tagged me, and I’m finally getting around to this.  It’s the Stranded Island meme and I have to choose which Books, Movies, Albums and People I would bring along.

BOOKS:
Ok, I’m about to commit blogger heresy here by announcing the fact that I don’t really enjoy reading.  I know I have probably just banished myself to the 7th ring of hell in the minds of all you bookworms (because there does seem to be an overabundance of bookworms in the blogging community).  But there you have it.  Occasionally, I can get caught up in a Nora Roberts book, or an informational book on whatever my latest self-education project is.  But I NEVER read a book twice, so it’s hard to know what I would bring since - obviously - I haven’t read it yet.

  • Something with a shiny cover from Nora Roberts
  • A Poirot Mystery
  • The Bible (RSV Please)

MOVIES:
This is also a hard one, as I don’t really enjoy watching movies repeatedly.  J has a nice movie collection, but if I were on my own I probably wouldn’t actually own a single movie because once I’ve seen it it tends to sit there untouched for a very. very. very long (sometimes indefinite period of) time.

  • Poirot Movie Collection (the ones with David Suchet)
  • Chicken Run
  • Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Yes, I get to bring ALL THREE because they were originally written to be ONE BOOK.  SO THERE)

ALBUMS:

  • Sarah McLachlan (I just looked it up and realized I’ve been spelling her name wrong for 9 years) Surfacing
  • Toby Lightman Little Things
  • BareNaked Ladies Rock Spectacle

PEOPLE:

  • J (duh)
  • Button (duh)
  • My mom, because she and Button have a mutual crush on each other and her offers to babysit keep me sane…especially since she sometimes does our laundry while she’s over here.  She’s also a really good cook.

Ok, here comes the fun part…Close my eyes, spin around and point my finger AT…

  1. Stereoette - Because she’s cute, fun, smart and a total fashionista
  2. Bad Alice - Because she recently had a birthday and I enjoy reading her daily journey in which she reconciles her life with her faith.
  3. Jane - on whose bad side I hope never to get, but she makes me laugh when I read about the others who have!

6 Things

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

Self-Proclaimed SuperMom wants to know 6 Weird Facts about me…so here we go:

1. I sort my M&Ms by color and have little “battles” that dictate which color gets eaten first.

2. I love projects and start dozens of them each year. But I lose interest quickly so I rarely finish what I set out to do. I’m currently teaching myself how to make blog templates.

3. I don’t like to put my head (particularly my ears) underwater because when I was little I had to be very careful to avoid doing so (ear infections). The discomfort (paranoia?) has stuck with me.

4. I’m paranoid about cavities and look at my teeth with a flashlight before bed almost every night.

5. I never developed a taste for coffee or alcohol. I prefer virgin daiquiris to the real thing.

6. I have a hole in the roof of my mouth that I can make little squeaky noises out of and fool young children into thinking there’s a mouse amok. A souvenir from a corrected cleft palate.

What are some weird things about you?

What is the last thing you ate?
A quesadilla…which I now wish I hadn’t.

What CD is on your CD player right now?
I have a 6-CD changer and it has Anna Nalick, Nickelback, Barenaked Ladies, Kelly Clarkson and Toby Lighman in it.

How many keys are on your key ring?
Five. And I don’t have a clue what one of them is to.

How much cash do you have in your wallet?
One dollar bill and some change.

List 2 bad habbits that you have. Which one would you be willing to give up first?
Biting/picking at my nails and leaving my shoes out for people to trip over. I’ve given up biting my nails several times…it’s really just something I do out of boredom. But to my husband’s dismay (and stubbed toes), I still haven’t made progress in correcting the shoe thing.

What does your name mean?
Beloved.

What color is your room?
Kind of a neutral off-white with red/purple accents.

Do you give your pets birthday & Christmas presents?
Only sort of. After Christmas, we go to Petco and buy all the “Christmas Rawhide Stockings” for dogs that are now 75% off.

When you fasten your jeans do you button first or zip first?
Neither at the moment. My jeans are so loose that they just slide on and off. But when I wear jeans that fit, I think I usually button first.

Do you drink after other peopole or let them drink after you?
Yes. I have a good immune system, so I’m not too concerned about germs. I probably should be a little more careful.

When your plate has several different foods on it, do you mix them together or eat everything separately?
Everything separately. I’m a very organized eater. The only thing I mix is peas and mashed potatoes.

What time did you get up this morning?
Which time? The first time, I got up at 6AM with Button, fed her and put her back down for another two hours. Then I got up at 8AM for good. I love weekends.

You run into a friend while shopping - where are you?
Sifting through the clearance racks at the Dillard’s Baby section.

What are the three most unattractive characteristics you find in other people?
Dishonesty, arrogance, and the idea that being critical of everything makes you clever and independent. I don’t know if there’s a word for that.

What is the single characteristic you dislike most about yourself?
I think I am too easily affected by what other people think of me. Other people’s comments can make or break my week, even people I don’t particularly care about.

Do you sleep on your side, stomach or back?
I used to be a dedicated back sleeper. But while pregnant, I had no choice but to sleep on my side. So now it’s a little of both.

When flying, do you prefer window, middle or isle?
Isle. I hate having to step over people to get to the bathroom.

Do you sing in the shower?
No. But I do sing in the car.

What movie have you watched the most?
I usually don’t like to watch movies more than once, or maybe twice if it’s really good. But I did watch Lord of the Rings like 6 times. In the theatre. And several times on DVD.

What is your favorite drink?
I’m not a huge fan of alcohol, never developed a taste for it. But I love daquiries if the rum isn’t too strong. And Amaretto Sours. Yummm…

What bugs you more: pop-up ads or spam email?
Depends…I have pop-up blocker software, so pop-ups aren’t a big deal right now. Spam is absolutely eating my lunch and makes me want to pull my hair out every day. But if I DIDN’T have the blocker software, pop-ups would be more annoying.

Would you rather change your past or know your future?
I guess I’d rather know my future, so I could plan for it a little better. I would be hesitant to change anything in my past (besides a few minor stupid and embarassing things) because I believe my past is a major factor in who I am today. But it would be nice to know things like if I’m going to lose my job or something so I could start saving money.
